Robust Quality Engineering Society

Robust Quality Engineering Society(RQES)

Overview & History:

The Robust Quality Engineering Society (RQES) is a Japanese academic organization dedicated to the research, advancement, and promotion of Robust Quality Engineering developed by Dr. Genichi Taguchi. Dr. Taguchi applied the design of experiments to the Japanese manufacturing industry after World War II, contributing to the advancement of the quality of Japanese products.
By the 1970s, his approach to experimental design had developed into a methodological framework for product design and manufacturing optimization, focusing on "Robustness". His approach was further developed and supported by engineers and researchers from various fields.
It had gained recognition across many disciplines as a fundamental methodology for technological development. In March 1993, the Robust Quality Engineering Forum was established to facilitate collaboration across fields, consolidate research efforts, promote knowledge dissemination, and further advance the methodology.
After receiving official approval as an academic organization, its name was changed to the Robust Quality Engineering Society in July 1998. Following continued expansion and active promotion of its initiatives, the Robust Quality Engineering Society, Inc. was established in September 2016.

Activities of the Society for Robust Quality Engineering
1. Publication of the Society’s Journal, Robust Quality Engineering
The journal publishes the latest information on quality engineering, including research papers and editorials. It is issued four times a year.
2. Annual Conference of the Robust Quality Engineering Society
Held once a year for two days, typically around June, this conference is the largest academic event in the field of robust quality engineering.
3. Conference on Technology Strategy
This conference focuses on the strategic application of Robust Quality Engineering across areas such as technology management, business strategy, and human resource development. It is held annually in November.
4. Corporate Networking Meetings
These meetings involve visits to companies and organizations actively implementing Robust Quality Engineering. Participants share insights through introductions of RQE initiatives and presentations of practical case studies. The meetings are held once a year, typically around March.
5. Support for Local RQE Research Groups
The Society supports the activities of local Robust Quality Engineering study groups throughout Japan.
6. Robust Quality Engineering Consultant System
In cooperation with public research institutes across Japan, certified Robust Quality Engineering consultants are assigned to provide expert consultation on RQE-related issues.
